Unable to sign up for new membership after canceling previous membership

When a user cancels the monthly membership, they cannot sign up the lifetime membership. Memberstack returns the error "Email already taken" What can be done to fix this?
Cris
Followup: The update scenario from Free Trial to Lifetime are working if the upgrade/downgrade links are set correctly. It is my mistake that I did not set those link correctly. I corrected them now.

Hey Cris! Sorry that you're having challenges here — looking into some possible solutions with our engineering team 🙏 Will keep you posted.
For now, one workaround is that the member can use a '+' sign in their email.
Eg:
Older monthly membership that was canceled → john@doe.com
Newer lifetime membership → john+new@doe.com
Cris
Naitik Mehta: Thanks for your reply. Using another email is not exactly a solution. This is not mentioned in the error message. My concern is that, since the lifetime membership does not allow a trial period, most users who want lifetime will first make monthly subscription (which has a 10 day free, no credit card trial) and then want to switch to the lifetime membership and get and error. This has to work for:
- Switching from Free Trial state to Lifetime
- Switching from Expired state to Lifetime
- Switching from Canceled state to Lifetime
I cannot launch the lifetime membership until this switching is working without error. Hope you manage to find a solution soon. Thanks a lot for the help so far.

This also happens when a user is in trial status in the first membership and wants to make a new membership.
E.g: Membership A is a monthly membership with a 10 day trial period;
Membership B is a lifetime (one time payment) membership. Users who signed up for Membership A and used it for 10 days who want Membership B cannot sign up due to error "Email already taken"
